Hoglet waiting list

Before you join. Pygmy hedgehogs are nocturnal, live alone, and need a room held at a steady temperature all year — they are not a starter pet, and they are not really a pet for a young child. We would rather say so now than rehome one that is not working out. Our care guide covers what keeping one actually involves.

What we need you to have ready. These are not negotiable, and we would rather tell you now than turn you away later.

• An enclosure of at least 4ft x 2ft. Bigger is better — they cover a lot of ground at night.
• Solid sides, no bars. Hedgehogs climb bars and fall, and legs get caught.
• A large solid-surface wheel. Mesh or spoked wheels injure feet.
• A room held at a steady temperature all year, which usually means heating in winter.

We check your setup — photos are fine — before you come to meet a hoglet, and again before collection. If it is not right yet, we will tell you what to change and hold your place.
