Meet the team

Pets on the Green is a small team, and most of it is family. Between us we cover the sessions, the animals, the driving, the paperwork and the early-morning feeding.

Ciera
Founder, Lead Practitioner and Designated Safeguarding Lead

I founded Pets on the Green and run every part of it.

I deliver all animal-assisted intervention sessions personally, along with private encounters, mobile parties, school visits, care home visits and public events. I’m the named Designated Safeguarding Lead.

Away from sessions I manage the daily care of over seventy animals across nine species groups — feeding, health monitoring, weight tracking, enrichment, veterinary liaison and the individual records kept for every animal. I run the ethical hedgehog breeding programme, from pairing decisions through to vetting homes.

I also handle everything behind the business: bookings, invoicing, VAT, licensing, insurance, risk assessments, policies, staff training, rotas, the website, and the reports and progress records written for schools, families and local authorities. I write the supporting evidence for EHCP applications and reviews myself.

My dad set up much of the admin originally, and I’ve now taken that on myself too.

What I’m like
Open-minded and outgoing, and I’ll happily talk to anyone. Good with children, confident in what I know, and SEN is my specialism.

Phoebe holds animal management qualifications and has been trained in-house by Ciera on this collection specifically.

She maintains animal welfare across the collection, attends mobile visits and parties alongside Ciera, and delivers private animal handling sessions on her own.

Animal Care and Sessions

Alanah holds childcare qualifications and came to us through years of keeping her own animals rather than through an animal course — she now knows this whole collection inside out.

She maintains animal welfare, and delivers private animal handling sessions on her own.

What she’s like
Laid back, and happy to talk about the animals throughout your session. She enjoys teaching people about them.

Scared of
Nothing, as far as any of us can tell
Animals at home
A sun beetle, a sapphire flower beetle, Siamese and Hawaiian glow millipedes, rainbow stag beetles, an Indonesian leaf insect, her green bottle blue tarantula and Sazimi’s tarantula, four dogs, five cats and three royal pythons. An aviary is on the way, so birds are next. The spiders are the only ones she brings in.

Custard, our royal python
Animals at home
Two cats, a royal python, a crested gecko, a leopard gecko and a variety of isopods
Basic DBS in progress

Volunteers work with the animals only, outside session times.

Family

Ciera’s mum at a Pets on the Green stall
Ciera’s mum cleans between sessions where she can, cleans out the small mammals, and does the morning feed for all of them before the day starts.
Ciera’s dad holding a baby rabbit
Ciera’s dad transports the team and equipment when it won’t all fit in the van. At public events and fairs he talks to visitors about the animals and helps on the entrance alongside Ciera’s mum.
Ciera’s brother holding a rabbit at a public event
Ciera’s brother helps with animal handling at public events.

All hold Basic DBS.

And everyone else

Plenty of people have helped get this off the ground — lifting, driving, building, and turning up when it was needed. They’re not listed here and they’re not in any photographs, but the business wouldn’t exist without them.

Everyone who works unsupervised with children holds an Enhanced DBS check. All other team members working alongside Ciera hold at least a Basic check. Volunteers who work only with the animals are never on site while visitors are present and have no contact with children.
